      Hi. You can use IC cards for local transportation within a city, such as taking the train to Disneyland. I recommend getting SUICA/Welcome SUICA cards when you arrive in Tokyo. If the adults in your party have iPhones, you can get digital SUICA or PASMO cards before your trip. Here's our video on getting Child SUICA cards for children ages 6-11 years old: ruclips.net/video/BbvQurJdOnc/видео.html Or you may be able to get them a Child Welcome SUICA. For traveling from Tokyo to Osaka and then Kyoto to Tokyo you can buy individual Shinkansen bullet train tickets. BIG THANKS! Can't wait to visit the Japan summer heat in August and I need your expertise please. Whereas if you get the Suica and need the full ID then you need to install the Suica app which is in Japanese and a pain to figure out. Thanks for this video. We have android, is turning off Data Roaming the equivalent of turning off Data Switching? Would it be better to just disable the home sim and leave the e-sim on for the duration of visit? Thank you.

    • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest 2 дня назад

      Hi, great question. They are not the same. Data roaming allows you to connect to networks outsite of your coverage area. So you want your eSIM that you purchase for traveling abroad to have this turned on. However, if you also wanted to have your home carrier work abroad you will again want this on because your home carrier will need to use the network abroad in order to work. Data switching on the other hand is just the ability for you to switch between profiles. So if you have your mobile eSIM/SIM enabled and your international eSIM on at the same time, if you have data switching turned on then if your international eSIM cannot get a good connection it might switch to your home carrier. So if you don't ever want to use your home carrier for data but still want to use your home carrier to receive phone calls then definitely turn off data switching. You can also turn off roaming for your home carrier and that will effectively stop it from connecting to any network abroad and therefore it wont use any data and you won't be able to use it to make/receive calls nor SMS. In your case, you can certainly just disable your home SIM if your phone allows it.

    • @mogtrader8
      @mogtrader8 2 дня назад

      @@KenshoQuest Hello, Thank you. We want to just be able to use mobile data from the eSim that we got for traveling. Seems for Android users, we need to enable Data Roaming and Mobile Data on the eSim for traveling and disable the home sim to avoid those costly charges. Thanks

    So grateful for your videos! We will be in Japan for 11 days in Oct with our 10 month old and 3 year old. First 3 or 4 nights in Tokyo then starting the arch. Our last night or two will be in Kyoto before flying out of Osaka. We really want to see Takayama, Shirakawago, Matsumoto, Knazawa, and possibly Toyama. How would you break up 5-6 nights at these locations? Second question is: is the Takayama-Hokuriku Area Tourist Pass worth over the arch pass with our intended itinerary? Thanks for all your help!

    • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest День назад

      Hi, if you are planning on renting a car, which we highly recommend, then you don't need the Takayama-Hokuriku Area Tourist Pass. By renting a car you can easily visit both Shirakawa-go or even better Ainokura as well as Takayama. But if you are not then this pass might be the better way to go since getting to Shirakawa-go and Takayama will be difficult. Though, you could also take a tour bus from Kanazawa. Whatever you choose, we recommend you spend a night or two in Matsumoto then make Kanazawa your base to visit all the other places. With the Hokuriku Arch Pass you can take the shinkansen from Kanazawa to Toyama as well as all the way to Tsuruga which is the last station of the Shinkansen. So also consider how quickly you want to get to Kyoto. You're going to love this region, your itinerary is great :)

    I've personally left those cheap umbrellas many times: on the subway, at my hotel, at a shop, etc. My last trip to Japan, I lost them twice. Granted, they weren't expensive to replace. But as mentioned, I never EVER EVER leave items on the overhead rack on local subway trips. On the shinkansen? That's fine because as I prepare to get off the train, I don't check once, I don't check twice, I check THRICE. And then sometimes I checked a fourth time. You can NEVER be too sure. This is also why I usually never leave anything on the plane as well. When we wait to deplane, I constantly check if I have everything. One time flying to Osaka, I left my duffle bag at the airport because I was in a rush to make the train from Kansai to Umeda station. Only when I checked into my hotel did I remember I had LEFT my bag at the airport. I had a friend call the airport and they had determined they had my duffle bag and will be ready to pick up. I went to the airport the next day and had to page a storage fee or 1000 yen, AND I had to go through customs again because the bag was technically still out of the country. The agent obviously looked at me with a side eye because he knew I had left the bag at the airport and did a physical inspection. He then let me go. Never again!

    Hi, I've been watching your videos and I find it very helpful in planning our first time trip to Japan. We plan to travel this coming September 2024. We'll fly from LAX to KIX then stay in Kyoto for 3 days, then 2 days in Osaka, 3 days in Tokyo and back to Osaka. I would like to ask your opinion if our itinerary sounds feasible. Thank you so much in advance and goodluck to your channel.

    • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest 2 дня назад

      Hi, yes, absolutely doable. In fact, many do this exact itinerary. The most important factor is to plan extra time, as it always takes longer than you plan due to a number of factors such as large crowds which slows everything down and transportation within cities usually takes longer as well. Definitely take the Tokaido Shinkansen to Tokyo and back.

      Hi. It's a Kinderpack. It's the most comfortable out of all the soft structured carriers I've used over the years. Here's my referral link: rwrd.io/87m3cet?c

      Hi. It might be hard to find Merino wool clothing in Japan. You might be able to get Merino wool base layers at an outdoors store. UNIQLO sells synthetic clothing for either hot or cold weather. Unbound Merino does ship worldwide and you can save 10% with KENSHOQUEST.

    Hi guys! Thank you very much for your super helpful content! I have a doubt concerning US dollar bills exchange in Japan and would like to check if you would know... I have some $100 US dollar bills from 1996 (big face type) that have never been used, so they are brand "new", although they are from an old series. Do you know if exchange agencies in Japan accept these kind of bills, of if they only accept the new type, or newer issued bills? Thank you for your attention!!

    • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest 2 дня назад

      Hi. That might be an issue at a currency exchange. We recommend going to your bank in the USA and asking to exchange them to the newest version before your trip to Japan. I have a $100 bill with a slight tear in it that went all around the world because no exchange counter would accept it.

      Hi. The only thing I use my debit card for is withdrawing money from an ATM. For purchases I use my credit card or cash. Here’s my video on payment methods in Japan: ruclips.net/video/QKX8_MsuYFU/видео.htmlsi=ymBp_i_60qFh9S2N

    Good informative video,, Thanks. May I know based on your experience for 12 days require how much data for eSIM ?

    • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest 3 дня назад

      Hi, the amount of data depends on how you plan to use it. If just one user with minimal usage - maps, navigation, checking email and posting a few photos on social, you need a minimum of 1GB/day. If you will be using extensive maps/navigation and also watching videos then plan 2-3 GB/day. Good thing is prices get cheaper with larger allotments. I hope this helps! On my first trip to Japan, I left my bag with my traveler's cheques, money, camera, and passport on the train at Kyoto station. As I walked along the platform I heard someone yelling and running after me, holding my bag. It was a train worker who found it and saw that it matched my other bag, I will always remember him for that, It was my second day in Japan and it could have ruined my whole trip.

    Thank you so much for all the information! My friend and I will be returning to Japan next year and were hoping to travel through 11 prefectures while we're there. When mentioning we can't cross different regions, would that include travelling from one prefecture to another? Would it then be recommended to buy seperate (physical) tickets to get from one prefecture to another and only using the IC cards for traveling to cities and sightseeing spots? Basically, how will I know if something is outside a region? ^^;;

    • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest 3 дня назад

      Hi, thanks for watching :) Your question is hard to answer but I don't think you need to worry about it. Because, usually when you cross prefectures they are far distances and you will be taking a limited express train or a shinkansen where you need to purchase a separate ticket and therefore, would not be using your IC card at all. An odd one is if you plan to travel from Tokyo to Yokohama/Kamakura. In this case you are crossing from one prefecture to another but it is no problem and you can use your IC card to cross because the entire area is one huge megapolis. I hope this helps.

    • @Maya93M
      @Maya93M 3 дня назад

      @@KenshoQuest Thanks so much for the quick reply! I'm glad it won't be too much of a problem, we most likely will be taking shinkansen for the long distances and buy seperate tickets for those trips, so then we can use the IC card for within the cities we'll be staying at. Thank you for all your help! :D
